The federal government, represented by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman and officials of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), led by their president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodoke held a closed-door meeting at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja in response to the 21-day notice issued by the union to the federal government during the National Executive Council meeting (NEC) on Monday, August 19th 2024, due to numerous unresolved issues.
The meeting which lasted for two hours was initially set for Monday, 26th August, 2024, but was postponed for reasons not known to the general public.
The meeting ended in an agreement by both parties to hold another follow-up meeting on Friday September 6, 2024, as announced by the Minister of Education himself (Prof. Tahir Mamman). He urged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to be considerate and open-minded in their negotiations.
